Not every vertical garden is the sunshine in the house. Many living rooms have too little sunlight for many plants. Fortunately, there are more than enough nice plants for your vertical garden in the shade!
Philodendron Scandens
First of all, the Philodendron Scandens is a houseplant that does very well in the shade. This plant is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. In these tropical rainforests there are very tall trees, so that little sunlight reaches the ground. The Philodendron Scandens therefore produces aerial roots in order to grow towards the light. It embraces the tree. And that’s where the name comes from. Philo means “to love” and dendron means “tree”. The Philodendron Scandens consists of a number of varieties, from light to dark leaves. Ideal for varying and combining.
Dragon plant
The Epipremnum Aureum, or the Dragon Plant, is not afraid of the dark. Moreover, it is a very nice plant, because it can hang and grow upwards. A good plant to create a beautiful plant wall. The Dragon Plant comes from the humid forests of Southeast Asia. This plant also produces aerial roots, just like the Philodendron Scandens. Besides the Aureum variety, there are a number of other species within the Epipremnum family. Think of the Scindapsus Pictus, the Scindapsus N’joy and the Scindapsus Green. These species all have more or less the same characteristics, but the color of the leaves varies.
Aglaonema
This plant really belongs in your urban jungle. They stay nice and small, but a lot of beautiful leaves grow from them. We are talking about the species Aglaonema. And this one has relatively few species, only about 55. That does not alter the fact that this species has a number of nice varieties that are very suitable as a houseplant. All extremely suitable for your vertical garden in the shade!
